Overview

NewtonMedical Center, a member of Atlantic Health System, is seeking a Full Time Unit Nurse Educator for the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit. Working primarily 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM, including weekends if needed.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Collaborates as aprt of multidisciplinary team to provide nursing care & related functions for adult psychiatric inpatients.
  • May coordinate & assign nursing care for patients.
  • May observe staff in delivery of patient care to assure quality of same.
  • Use de-escalation skills to minimize seclusion/restraint.
  • Crisis intervention & management.
  • Assure compliance with STCF regulations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge/competency regarding psychotropic medications, their use & potential side effects.
  • Function in charge RN role.
  • Provides psychoeducational groups with patients.
  • Participates in orientation of new staff.
  • Participate in at least one hospital nursing committee or council.
  • Coordinates distribution of educational material to all nursing staff.
  • Tracks staff completion of professional nursing educational programs & maintains related records for each employee.
  • Provides direct education via in-services as needed.
  • Assists in educting/preparing nursing staff for licensing & accreditation inspections.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Graduate of accredited nursing program. BSN preferred.

 

Required License:

  • Valid New Jersey Nursing License Required

 

Related Experience:

  •  At least 1-2 years experience in an inpatient psychiatric setting.
