Overview

Atlantic Ambulance, a member of Atlantic Health System, is seeking a Per-Diem Medical Dispatcher for the Ambulance-CENCOM Unit working primarily 5PM - 7PM, including 1 weekend per month.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • The PD Dispatcher receives requests/calls from various settings including hospitals for emergent, urgent, and planned patient medical transport. They will establish and modify a schedule and dispatch transport vehicles to respond to emergent and scheduled transport requests in swift, timely and proper manner. They will operate communication equipment maintaining contact with transport personnel. They will provide excellent customer service at all times even in difficult situations and during challenging volume demands.

    Specific Responsibilities
    • Effectively prioritizes channels and assigns emergency and non-emergency medical transport requests to appropriate vehicles and personnel (SCTU, BLS and MAV) to ensure a smooth transition and work flow from request to scheduling and through pick up or emergent response.
    • Dispatches vehicles in a timely manner
    • Makes accurate moment-to- moment decisions in regard to scheduling trips and rearranging the current plan accordingly to accommodate exceptions and emergencies.
    • Performs ongoing demand analysis of engaged and available vehicles to ensure operational efficiency and customer satisfaction with transports.
    • Appropriately balances the needs of the customer and the company when making critical decisions regarding transport.
    • Ensures compliance with various state, federal and insurance regulations relating to ambulance transports when scheduling and managing transports.
    • Maintains timely and accurate tracking of all vehicles engaged in transports and makes appropriate assignments using this information about vehicle location and availability.
    • Consistently performs status checks on crews verifying engagement, availability, safety and progress in transport.
    • Expertly uses CAD Dispatch system to review trip requests, appropriately schedule transports to assure timely response and vehicle/resource utilization and service.
    • Keeps trip requests organized and prioritizes trips for appropriate sequence dispatch when emergencies develop
    • Communicates to crew vital trip assignment and monitoring information via communication system. Consistently uses professional demeanor, voice tone and respect in all communications.
    • Prepares, completes and distributes in a timely fashion reports stating progress, issues, problems and statistics for review by other appropriate parties
    • Perform basic data entry; demonstrate ability to learn new computer programs and perform some advanced data entry when necessary.
    • Attends communication meetings and education/training sessions
    • Complies with and enforces all policies and procedures.
    • Escalates concerns regarding questionable matters to appropriate management
    • Competently performs call taker duties when work schedule or demand requires.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma/GED/ equivalent required
  • Customer service and call taking/call center training courses preferred

 

Certifications:

  • Basic Tele-Communicator (BTC) and NJ Emergency Medical Dispatcher (NJEMD) certifications are required prior to employment

   

Related Experience:

  • Able to use a computer and be highly proficient and accurate with data entry.
  • Must be computer savvy to navigate various software applications comfortably including Internet, RightCAD, email and other Microsoft Office software
  • Must be able to read and understand internet based mapping and GPS programs.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in excessively high call/trip volume periods
  • Ability to maintain a calm demeanor and ability to process information and make critical, sound and quick decisions
  • Punctual and stringent about his/her work, attendance and reporting
  • Must have access to reliable transportation, be extremely detail-oriented, desire to work in fast-paced, growth oriented, customer focused and high volume environment
  • Must hear speech out of both ears in the normal range as defined by NENA standard 54-002.
