Overview

Newton Medical Center, a member of Atlantic Health System, is seeking a PD Cancer Registrar for the Cancer Registry Department. Flexible hours.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Demonstrates ability to accurately code and abstract relevant information from the medical record to the registry software system according the guidelines set forth by the New Jersey Cancer Registry Program as well as the American College of Surgeon s FORDS manual
  • contacts physicians to complete first course of treatment received
  • reviews of fellow registrar s abstracts for quality control of registry data
  • protects confidentiality of patient, employee, department and hospital information and/or records
  • Reviews pathology reports and charts of in-patients and out-patients to determine which cases are to be included in the database according to the reportable list as approved by the Cancer Committee
  • attaches staging forms to charts when necessary
  • monitors discharge log to assure completeness of casefinding
  • screens out-patient records in radiation therapy, photophoresis, Valerie Center, chemotherapy
  • Completes these procedures according to directions outlined in the Cancer Registry Policy and Procedure Manual
  • Assists in the quality control necessary prior to running reports for the annual report as well as other reports generated in the registry
  • Researches genedits on own abstracts prior to cases being reported to NJSCR and NCDB
  • participates quarterly in submitting 10% of annual analytic cases to physicians for QA review
  • Assists in the quality control necessary 
  • Accepts or recruits cases for cancer conference
  • attends other meetings in the coordinator s absence
  • attends Cancer Committee Business Meeting in coordinator s absence with minutes completed within 2 weeks of this meeting
  • attends at least two (2) continuing education conferences annually (not including cancer conferences)
  • Assists in the quality control necessary prior to running reports for the annual report as well as other reports generated in the registry
  • Researches genedits on own abstracts prior to cases being reported to NJSCR and NCDB
  • participates quarterly in submitting 10% of annual analytic cases to physicians for QA review 
  • Performs any other tasks as assigned, in the time frame established by the Manager of Outpatient Oncology Services, the Cancer Registry Coordinator or the Cancer Registry Team Leader.

 

Qualifications

Education:

  • Associates degree required
  • Bachelors degree preferred

 

 

Certifications:

  • CTR required

 

Related Experience:

  • Excellent computer skills excellent communication skills
