Essential Job Functions:
The PA candidate will report directly to the Chair of the Department of Orthopedics. The PA shall respond to the needs of the orthopedic attending staff in the evaluation and initial treatment of orthopedic patients in the Emergency Room with particular emphasis on coordinating emergency care with the Trauma Service. The PA shall respond to and initiate care for patient-related problems arising on the orthopedic floors.
The primary function of the PA will be to serve as the in-house liaison to the orthopedic physician staff in the initial care and treatment of orthopedic patients within the hospital confines. The PA candidate must be able to address medical concerns as issues arise.
The PA candidate will be responsible for the following:
• first post-op dressing change and drain removals;
• checking and changing more complex dressings;
• writing discharge prescriptions for equipment, medication and home care needs;
• discontinuing hemovacs and pulling drains as directed by physician;
• acting as a medical resource to nursing staff.
Completion of an approved Physician Assistant program leading to either a BS or MS Degree
A valid NJ PA-C License
Current BLS certification required
ACLS certification preferred
Orthopedic experience as a Physician Assistant required
