  • Overview

    Hackettstown Medical Center, a member of the prestigious Atlantic Health System, is seeking a Part- time Dietetic Assistant for the Food & Nutrition Department. Hours vary, including ever other weekend.


    • Displays and maintains friendly and efficient PRIDE values attitude toward customers, co-workers, patients and visitors.

    • Maintains standards of the Food Service Department, follows policies and procedures set by the department, hospital and Atlantic Health System, the New Jersey Department of Health and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals.

    • Visits patients on a daily basis and obtains food preferences, allergies

    • Orients patients to food service policies and procedures

    • Visits and collects menus on a daily basis, assisting patients with menu selections if needed based on food preferences and allergies, while maintaining therapeutic diet restrictions.

    • Checks menus against the dietary profile and ensures all data in the profile is translated to the menu. Formulates menus for therapeutic diets based on diet orders and patient requests.

    • Recognizes and adopts activities appropriate to the specific needs of the patient population and demonstrates knowledge of specific issues directly related to age of patient population including pediatrics, adult and geriatric patients.

    • Communicates necessary information to Dietitians including referring any patients deemed to be at nutritional risk

    • Visits patients regularly to ensure patient satisfaction.

    • Maintains accurate records to meet regulatory agency guidelines.

    • Works with other department employees to ensure timely delivery of patient trays, supplements and formulas

    • Accurately compiles a list of special food orders and communicates effectively with the food production employees.

    • Adheres to established systems and training programs to provide a safe working environment. Complies with all OSHA regulations and other local, state and federal government regulations.

    • Appropriately stocks unit pantries with necessary stock items on a daily basis

    • Participates in the hospital community as a nutrition advocate and educator. Interacts in resolving problems with menus and/or meal service.

    • Works with and at the direction of the Clinical Nutrition Coordinator to complete other tasks deemed necessary for the proper functioning of the department.

    • Has been trained and has knowledge of all chemicals used in the department, their uses, potential hazards, what Material Safety Data Sheets are and where they are stored


    • Previous food service experience required.


    • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
