Overview

Atlantic Health System is seeking a Part Time Histology Technologist for our Morris Plains Lab to work from 7:00pm to 12:00am including every third weekend.

Responsibilities

 

  • Responsible for the gross examination and dissection of pathology biopsy specimens and/or other simple specimens assigned by the pathologist.
  • Accurately dictates gross descriptions according to designated protocols and templates. Includes all relevant details in the gross description including; color, measurement, number of pieces, shape, weight. Reviews gross description to ensure accuracy and completion.
  • Obtaining and appropriately applying the clinical information to the analysis and interpretation of the biopsy case.
  • Reconciliation of biopsy specimens: assures appropriate specimen accessioning; reconciles specimen labeling of containers, blocks, and requisitions, according to procedures.
  • Accessioning Surgical Pathology cases into LIS.
  • Downloads and Prints cassettes for surgical specimens as needed
  • Enter block information (number of blocks per case, number of pieces, etc.) into LIS.
  • Loading tissue cassettes into Tissue Processors.
  • Changing reagents on tissue processor as needed
  • Perform frozen sections with staining and coverslipping as needed.
  • Performs other technical duties as assigned.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a biological or life science
  • Certified as HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) preferred

 

Minimum Experience Required:

 

1-3 years of full time acceptable clinical experience in a histopathology laboratory
