Atlantic Health System is currently seeking a Full Time Medical Lab Scientist III to work at our Morris Plains lab, from 8am - 4pm and 1 in 3 weekends. 



Lead Technologist - Immunohistochemistry (IHC) will assist the supervisor with day-to-day administration of the Histology IHC Laboratory. Defined duties include:

  • Compliance with all Federal and State regulations pertaining to histology. Specifically:
    • Adhere to workload requirements
    • Maintenance of accurate work records (i.e., Maintenance Logs, Temperature Logs, etc.)
    • Evaluates new equipment and procedures
    • Reviews slides for overall quality of preparation such as staining intensity, proper cover slipping and stain artifacts to help insure accurate diagnosis
    • QC/QA activities

Job Functions:

  • Routine preventive maintenance procedures
  • Antibody validations
  • Equipment validations
  • Operation automated IHC stainer
  • Troubleshooting of quality issues
  • Operation of the automated cover slipper(s)
  • Create and or monitor essential documents through the daily operation
  • Lot to Lot validations of reagents at designated intervals
  • Timely completion of instrument specific QC documentation when applicable
  • Daily maintenance of cleanliness and neatness of Lab and instrumentation in all aspects
  • Proper handling and disposal of chemical waste
  • QC/QA of all antibodies
  • Timely distribution of completed patient materials to assigned pathologists
  • Immediate notification of existing and/or potential problems to the Laboratory supervisor


Minimum Education Required:

  • BS in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology, Biology or Chemistry or have previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493. 1433 published in March 14,1990
    • If HEW certified, eight years or more in same department.
  • Foreign educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from IERF (International Education Research Foundation). United States educated candidates must provide a detailed original transcript.

Minimum Experience Required:

  • 3 years experience in IHC and Histology
  • Must possess a thorough working knowledge of the IHC staining procedures, Histochemical staining procedure and routine Histology procedures to accomplish the Essential Functions and Basic Duties
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional Organizational Skills Required
  • Must be able to work with hazardous chemicals.
  • Working knowledge of computers and programs.
