Overview

Atlantic Health System is seeking a Manager, Nursing Education at Overlook Medical Center. This is exciting opportunity is full time. 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Directs department operations on a continuous basis and advises management on operational and functional improvement opportunities. Ensures that budget monitoring processes are in place and that appropriate action plans are established to address variances outside of established parameters. Identifies and implements ways to reduce and control expenses.  Tracks orientation and training cost center to explain variance.  Collaborates with Finance to document compliance to orientation duration timelines.  Approves payroll and assures a safe and competent team to meet employee professional development needs.
  • Continuously builds customer satisfaction for patients, physicians, colleagues, the community and other departments served. Engages staff in continually raising the bar in service excellence.  Schedules educational classes around nursing work flow so as not to compromise patient care.  Considers customer service as an integral part of the educator’s role, expecting that team members consistently go above and beyond, exceeding expectations of the customers.
  • Communicates effectively as hospital/system advocate to members of the community. Continually seeks ways to promote organization to the public.  Partners with managers and directors to offer professional growth to nursing staff.  Coaches employees regarding healthcare career opportunities.  Sponsors college fairs and serves as liaison to high school healthcare shadowing programs.
  • Assures that implementation of standards of professional practice occurs, reviewing and revising according to policy or as necessary to reflect changes in practice and to ensure safe, effective and efficient patient care. Ensures compliance with local, state, federal rules and regulations and OSHA and TJC standards. Evaluates core processes for redesign opportunities to improve operations, reduce cost, reduce cycle time, enhance service and improve performance.
  • Promotes and maintains harmonious and effective relationships. Develops collaborative models for structured communications and strategic, program and quality initiatives.  Sits on nursing college advisory boards and contributes valuable feedback to improve programs.  Serves as coach and consultant to all leadership and team members.
  • Expert in curriculum development.  Creates and teaches engaging presentations for all team members throughout the health care system. Ensures compliance with ANCC, ANPD, and Magnet Standards. Completes NJSNA continuing education application and maintains all paperwork as OMC provider unit planner.  Skilled in presentational gaming and using IT equipment efficiently.  Creates brochures, handouts and courses based on referrals from the following teams: infection prevention, clinical documentation, quality improvement, physician, nursing leadership, environmental, pharmacy, safety, emergency management, etc.  Incorporates educational materials onto learning management system.  Collaborates with all educators to create and host annual competencies throughout the year. Oversees transition to practice programs at all levels.  Plans special events, such as celebrations, ceremonies, and graduations and coordinates activities for guest speakers/presenters.
  • Interviews and hires employees, creates transition schedule for new team members, completes peer review, updates job descriptions within the nursing education department, collaborates with managers of education at sister Atlantic Health hospitals and attends leadership meetings.  Serves as an active member of the following councils/committees: employee engagement, nursing practice council, professional development, emergency management and safety, nursing leadership, nurse week task force, and Atlantic Health Joint Nurse Educator Council.
  • Oversees all nurse transition programs.  Collaborates with unit educators and nursing leadership to create/update/revise program curricula and forms. Delegates as appropriate: Scheduling guest speakers; maintaining activity calendars; applies/awards contact hours for all educational sessions; monitoring program processes and outcomes including, classes attended, observational experiences, mentor selection, evaluation completion and Casey Fink completition.

Minimum Education:

  • MSN required

License/Certifications:

  • BLS certification required

Relevant Experience:

  • Previous manager/director experience
  • Experience with student affiliations, academic contracts, professional competencies, shared governance, magnet designation, policy and procedure development and revisions, transition programs, orientation classes, curriculum development
  • NJSNA Provider Unit responsibilities, performance appraisals, team building, engaging presentations, budget analysis, educational gaming and mentoring undergraduate and graduate interns
