Atlantic Health System is seeking a Sr. Manager, Physician Compensation and Contracting at Morristown, NJ. The position plays a critical in the leadership of the AHS Physician Compensation and Contracting (PCC) Team, as well as the growth and retention of physicians employed by Atlantic Health System. This role will support all aspects of the contracting process from the point a candidate is identified until the point of contract signature, and beyond including successful renewal and retention of our employed physicians. 


  • Effectively communicates and acts as a champion for collaboration with all involved parties with the contracting process, including but not limited to Senior Leadership, Recruitment, Onboarding, Business Development, Operations, and Marketing.
  • Plans, develops, and implements new and revised compensation programs, policies and procedures to be responsive to the AHS's goals and competitive practices.
  • Recommends strategic changes to reduce the complexity of physician contracting process and improve the experience of physicians.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness and competitiveness of existing AHS compensation policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Offers thoughtful advice to staff and leadership on compensation decisions, policy and guideline interpretations, and job evaluation including the design of creative solutions to all compensation-related programs.  
  • Provides leadership and recommendations on all physician compensation and incentive processes; with an eye for increasing consistency, reducing risk, and minimizing process complexity. 
  • Oversee the process to reconcile incentive compensation for employed, leased, and otherwise aligned Physicians to ensure accuracy and timeliness of payments according to organizational timelines.
  • Leads the Atlantic Physician Compensation Committee (APCC) providing guidance ad further insight to support the Committee’s decision-making process.
  • Manages the team that prepares agenda, outlines of recommendation compensation terms, Fair Market Valuations, and other pertinent information as needed. 
  • Remains informed on trends in physician compensation with sources such as American Medical Group Association (AMGA), Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), Sullivan Cotter, as well as the trends regionally and with other large medical groups.
  • Monitors regulatory changes that may impact AMG employment and compensation practices.
  • Ensures that the Physician Compensation and Contracting (PCC) team maintains a detailed record of all AMG physician contracts and related compensation arrangements.
  • Establishes clear guidelines with all parties regarding the requisite information needed.
  • Supports PCC team in the development physician compensation plan, working to ensure equity with other similarly trained and experienced physicians in the system.
  • Provides training and guidance on Fair Market Valuation process and confirms that on all Physician Compensation Models in compliance with Fair Market Guidelines.
  • Partners with Legal to ensure exceptional training and guidance on drafting of physician employment agreements for the PCC Team.
  • Closely monitors/manages the physician contracting process to ensure that there are sufficient resources, effective policies/pathways for timely delivery of term sheets and employment agreements both for new recruits and for renewals of existing AMG Physicians.
  • Provides advice and direction for the PCC Team on questions related to contract matters, including follow-up on contract-related questions, requests, and further negotiations.
  • Remains informed on trends in physician compensation with sources such as AMGA, MGMA, Sullivan Cotter, and the CMGA Cohort as well as the trends regionally and with other large medical groups.
  • Monitors regulatory changes that may impact AMG employment and compensation practices.
  • Continuously evaluate departmental processes/protocols, and research/incorporate best practices into our Physician Compensation and Contracting processes.
  • Solicits feedback to continuously improve departmental processes/protocols.
  • Participates in other duties and responsibilities as assigned.



  • Strong knowledge of all physician compensation laws including but not limited to Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, IRS guidelines to ensure AHS's compliance
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including superior grammar and proofreading skills
  • The ability to multi-task, plan and prioritize a large volume of detail-oriented work in accordance with changing deadlines
  • Strong computer technology skills including, but not limited to, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, set priorities, and follow through to accomplish results
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally at all levels of the organization


  • Bachelor's degree, additionally education including law degree is preferable

Relevant Experience:

  • Demonstrated expertise in physician compensation, benefits, and executive compensation
  • Experience successfully managing a team to emphasize quality, continuous improvement, team member retention and development, and high performance
  • Demonstrate high emotional intelligence and collaborate closely with all internal and external parties
  • 7+ years of experience with Physician Compensation design, Fair Market Valuations, and physician contracting within a healthcare organization
