Atlantic Health System is seeking a Director, Hospital Medicine for the Atlantic Medical Group Hospitalist Program.

  • The Director, AMG Hospital Medicine manages operations and support functions including physician deployment, training, policies and procedures administration, budget management, finances, and program growth
  • Provide leadership within the hospitalist program to ensure effective, efficient hospitalist operations, optimizing performance and continual improving quality of care
  • Reports to the Atlantic Medical Group Chief Operating Officer (COO)

A Director is jointly responsible with the medical directors for the successful business, financial, strategic operation, and performance of Atlantic Medical Group (AMG) in his/her assigned clinical area(s). In addition, the Director recommends strategies to enhance and/or grow provider services, enhance the patient experience, establishes business plans and monitors the overall performance of provider services.


Works collaboratively with key staff leaders in business development, finance, service line leadership, operations, human resources, special projects as well as practice and support staff. In taking on leadership responsibility for AMG, Directors will continue to work on aligning and integrating provider practices within the clinical area(s) and health system. Directors will need to develop credible relationships of trust with the providers and both hospital and system leadership. The Director will be significantly involved in determining the overall strategy and successful implementation of a business plan that supports improving AMG’s quality, cost and outcomes.



  • Assisting in the development and implementation of the strategic plan for Hospitalist Medicine across the system
  • Interviewing, selecting, training, supervising, evaluating and coaching employees that support the hospitalist program across the system
  • Ensure compliance with all appropriate regulatory agencies, corporate compliance, system protocols and office procedures and communicating policy changes to appropriate staff
  • Ensure adherence to established policies and procedures and standardize a continuous process improvement
  • Conducting spot audits to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures
  • Mediate or assist in the mediation of conflicts, differences and misunderstandings between and amongst patients, staff and physicians
  • Identify and address performance and behavioral problems of staff, counsel and discipline according to policy
  • Maintain and manage relationships with key hospital and system departments to garner appropriate resources and support
  • Work with all internal credentialing departments for smooth and accurate record keeping of all required documents and contractual relationships
  • Working with hospitals administration, Medical Director, and providers to ensure continuous quality improvement, particularly as it relates to patient satisfaction and quality indicators



  • Provide input for the development of budget and financial goals
  • Work closely with physicians to enhance operations, maximize reimbursement, collections and contain costs
  • Gather data and write justifications for personnel, capital expenditures for equipment and supplies
  • Creates action plans to ensure budget variances are appropriately identified and corrected
  • Institute and maintain tracking of physician activity to ensure all revenue is captured
  • Maintain communication with the billing company to ensure timeliness of data transfer and reasonable closing
  • Assist in the preparation, review and monitoring of annual budgets
  • Assist in monitoring physician productivity for incentive compensation
  • Recognize and reward performance when applicable
  • Ensure patient, staff and physician satisfaction for all assigned sites to the highest level of excellence
  • Implementing a staffing plan that effectively addresses department/division needs and productivity measures


  • Ensure office staff members are trained and versed on all applicable information systems
  • Participate in professional development activities to keep current with trends and practices in healthcare administration and provide training to staff as necessary
  • Provide ongoing feedback and coaching and perform all performance appraisals for direct reports and work with Supervisors/Coordinators to ensure timely and accurate completion within deadlines
  • Facilitate communication among physicians, staff and administration establishing a climate that encourages teamwork and promotes collegial collaboration among all team members including regular staff meetings/physician meetings with office Supervisors/Coordinators to discuss operational, financial and strategic initiatives
  • Interview and select high quality candidates and on-board and train new staff members
  • Oversee the maintenance requests, assuring a safe, clean and pleasant environment for patients and staff
  • Monitor progress toward achievement of yearly operational and financial goals
  • Plan for changes in resource requirements including staff, technology and space
  • Undertake special projects/assignments and AHS/physician initiatives as directed
  • Encouraging cross functional problem solving to improve quality of services or productivity.
  • Works effectively with peers, physicians, employees, directors and others.



  • Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Management or Business Administration
  • Master’s Degree preferred


Relevant Experience: 

  • Five (5) years of leadership experience
  • Proven leadership and change management skills required
  • ACHE member
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to analyze satisfaction, financial and operational data and develop plans for improvement
  • Experience working with medical center operations and staff
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent organizational and customer service skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams
