Overview

Atlantic Health System is currently seeking a Per Diem Pathology Support Technician for the Anatomic Pathology Department at Overlook Medical Center to work 3pm-7pm Wednesday, Thursday, Friday including, every other Saturday as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the receipt, storage and disposal of surgical pathology cases including:
    • Receiving and accessioning Pathology specimens
    • Entering orders in EPIC and Powerpath (HIS & LIS) with utmost accuracy
    • Contributes to monthly QA to be maintained for the Department
    • Accurately match and label specimen containers with surgical requisition
      numbers
    • Accurately correlate cassettes with surgical numbers
    • Maintain specimen deficiencies in Powerpath.
  • Specimen Management and Technical Duties:
    • Assist Pathologist with specimen dissections and other requests as instructed
    • Prepare grossing area for Pathologist daily and after each frozen
    • Specimen management tasks such as inventory and dispensation of "receipt
      only" specimens, storage and environmental disposal of autopsy tissues and
      surgical specimens etc.
    • Acquire and maintain basic proficiency in Histotechnology to produce basic
      frozen section slides including staining and cover-slipping
    • Prepare frozen tissue to be sent to the Consolidated Laboratory
    • Stain Touch Preps, Squash Preps and Diff Quiks for Pathologist
    • Assist with FNAs for CAT SCAN and Head and Neck Surgery
    • Pick up specimens from OR and other on-site locations
    • Prepare specimens for send-out.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Associates Degree in Science or a related field (Biology/Chemistry) or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred

Minimum Experience:

  • 1 Year of experience in a Laboratory setting
  • Basic computer knowledge to include Microsoft Office Suite; Interest and skills in biological sciences
